I’ve watched Shane’s series about Tanacon, but that wasn’t enough to get me to subscribe. His series about Jake Paul is what made really intrigued, and after two episodes I can confidently say that I am so excited for that series, and I hope Shane doesn’t hold anything back. As for today’s post, I’m going to be sharing about my thoughts on his series with Jeffree Star, so let’s get right into it!
Although, I want to share my thoughts on his series with @grav3yardgirl first. I will admit, I only watched the first two episodes (because I’m a chicken). I didn’t even know who she was until this series, so I didn’t really get much out of it, but the main reason I watched it was to understand how Shane worked with other YouTubers. I think that knowing her and watching her before affected the way he worked, but that’s just my personal opinion. She just seemed like someone who was stuck in the past, and based on what I read in the comments, other people felt the same. YouTube is evolving every day and as a viewer, I personally love seeing YouTubers changing and evolving their content as they grow up. YouTube hit a billion users earlier this year, so there’s definitely an audience for her content. She just needs to step it up because she’s got some fierce competition.
Now, onto Jeffree Star. As with grav3yardgirl, I had absolutely no idea who he was, except that he did makeup on his Youtube channel. So, I wasn’t prepared for what I witnessed.
Here’s my short review: the first three episodes were Shane clearly uncomfortable and Jeffree revealing little tidbits about his dark past. We get to see his house and probably see parts of him that he’d never shown on his Youtube channel. The two-part finale was extremely dark and might be triggering for some so I won’t mention specifics, but let me say this; after everything I heard, I respect him for coming clean.
Let’s get into my more in-depth thoughts. In the first episode, we get introduced to Jeffree. He talks about fashion, something extremely explicit (so if you’re under 16, please don’t go and watch it because it’s not appropriate), and then something that’s not mentioned in the rest of the series or any comments that I read was that HE RUNS 10 BUSINESS’S BESIDES HIS MAKEUP COMPANY. Why did nobody mention this? I feel like this is extremely important, and Shane continues to think “oh why does Jeffree have so much money?” IT’S BECAUSE HE OWNS BUSINESS’S. Jeffree’s a business mogul. That’s what he is.
In the second episode, James Charles makes an appearance to transform Shane into Jeffree. They mostly talk about Jeffree’s past as a musician. If you didn’t know, back in the day, Jeffree was the most famous person on MySpace. His music is available on Apple Music and Spotify (it might be available elsewhere, but that’s where I know it exists) It is super catchy and seems like pop music, but I think it’s actually punk rock or something along those lines. I don’t really know. Anyway, he actually signed with Akon, who signed Lady Gaga, but the partnership didn’t work out. Jeffree was in debt, so he had to quit and do other stuff, and he turned back to makeup. It seems like Jeffree wants to do music again, and I’d be down to listen to it!
In the third episode, Shane becomes Jeffree, and they go to his MAKEUP FACTORY. It’s empty, but we get to see what it looks like. They talk about what the process of making makeup is like, and Jeffree suggests that Shane create his own makeup palette. I’m not sure how serious that was, and though Shane sounded serious, he hasn’t mentioned it since, so I’m assuming it’s not happening (although it might be. Who knows?)
The finale was where Shane did his questioning session, and it gets super dark and triggering so I won’t talk too much about it. They go to Jeffree’s MAKEUP LAB where he makes the makeup and then to where he lived for eight years, did music, and was in the darkest period of his life.
I hope you guys enjoyed this! Let me know if you’re interested in more social media related blog posts, but I have a few in the works so I guess you’ll just have to deal with it. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog post! Please leave a comment so I can show my appreciation. Hope you have/had a good day!
