Hey guys! Today I’m going to be sharing what I listened to in July 2018. I’m going to make this post every month. If I listen to a lot of music, I might post it every two weeks. We shall see.
This was a very interesting month for me, in regard to the music I listened to this month. Pop music has slowly been declining (so I’ve heard), but I still listened to some great songs. Some of these are typical pop, but some of these are really unique songs, which is what inspired me to make this blog post. Let me know if you want me to do a music video review post for any of these songs, or any song really.
In this post, I’m going to list a song and talk just a little bit about whether I liked or not and what my general thoughts of the song were.
Imagine Dragons – Natural
Cheat Codes, Little Mix – Only You
The song is about love. It’s very cliché and very typical of pop songs. The one thing that made it stand out was that the romance followed two girls! I really appreciated the diversity, but SPOILER ALERT, in the end, one of the girls turns out to be a mermaid. The music video followed them dancing at a party, which is another concept that’s been used hundreds of times.

Bebe Rexha – Steady ft Tory Lanez
This is a song from her new album, Expectations. It’s like typical pop but it’s also not. I don’t know how to describe it. All I can say is that I really liked it!

Kiira – Messy
This is my favorite song that I listened to this month! I’ve been replaying this over and over since I first listened to it. The music video shows guys crying which I think is super important. This is very different from the music she’s made before, but I still like it. I liked her music from before and this song as well, so we’ll see where Kiira takes her career.

Sabrina Carpenter – Almost Love
Sabrina Carpenter is one of my favorite music artists of all time. It’s been amazing to watch her grow and develop her music style. This video is a more mature one, but there’s still some Sabrina flair added to it. I do appreciate the diversity in this video. The outfits in the video are on point! In the first one Sabrina looks so innocent, but in the next one, she looks so badass. I love it!

LANY – thru these tears
This song is very relatable. I personally haven’t gone through a breakup, but based on the lyrics I think anyone who has had a bad breakup can relate to this song.

Daya – Safe
I like the song, but I don’t really understand the music video. If anyone could explain it, that would be appreciated <3. I don’t listen to her a lot, but this popped up in my recommended feed so I decided to give it a go. She did not disappoint!

Zayn – Sour Diesel
I’m being completely honest here. The only reason I listen to Zayn is that his music vibes with my WIP (work in progress.) This song didn’t do that, so I don’t like it as much as some of his others.
Zedd and Elley Duhe – Happy Now
“Wash in the weight of your pockets so deep, and lonely.” What does that line mean? I like this, just not as much as some of the other songs.

One Republic – Connection
I feel like this song is similar to something Imagine Dragons would make. I really like this song and personally connect with it as well. Writing can get lonely sometimes, which is why I try to find writer friends on the internet.

Bebe Rexha – I’m a Mess
I’m not quite sure how I feel about this song. The music video is kinda weird, which I think made me enjoy the song even less.

Troye Sivan – Dance to This ft Ariana Grande
I really liked this song. The music video was so fun! I think a lot of people have been waiting for this collab, and I’m happy that it finally happened!

Benny Blanco, Halsey, and Khalid – Eastside
I really like this song. The music video really confused me, so I did some research and this is what I found.
- Benny Blanco is a music producer. He’s produced a whole bunch of really popular music videos.
- He wrote this song with Ed Sheeran. To me, this makes total sense. It resonates with Sheeran’s style.
- Basically, he wants his name on the music. So, he’s doing collabs with other really big music artists, but making sure his name is also on the music as well.
- He also stars in the music video as well.
