It’s not just that her parents have split up, or that life hasn’t been the same since she quit dancing. Or even that her mother has checked herself into the hospital.
She’s losing time. Doing things she would never do. And objects around her seem to break whenever she comes close.
Something is after her. But a first attempt at an exorcism calls down the full force of the thing’s rage. It demands Marianne give back what she stole. And Marianne must uncover the truth that lies beneath it all before the nightmare can take what it thinks it’s owed, leaving Marianne trapped in the darkness of the other side.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I actually really liked this book. Don’t let my rating fool you. This is a dark paranormal story, and at times it was downright scary.
The synopsis did such a good job of hooking me in. The second I read it, I knew I had to read this book, and I’m really glad I did.
I don’t read a lot of paranormal, so I had no expectations going into the novel. I was expecting ghosts, but the actual concept was way cooler. The characters were well developed. Mari’s relationship with her mother should have been explored more, as it was really complicated. The setting is very creepy, which adds a layer of suspense. I liked the fact that it was an LGBTQ romance (although it’s not the main focus) I would have liked to see an epilogue, but other than that it was a really cool book!
Overall, I really liked this book! I would definitely recommend that you pick this up because it’s almost Halloween, and this is the perfect read for people wanting something a little scary.
